I read this morning the messages in regard to Tortorella's goal vs
Vasby in the 1981 RPI tournament and said to myself that I was at this
game but I only vaguely recall the incident. My recollection is that
the Vasby goaltender nonchalantly tried to play the puck and just
missed it.

Vasby had been built up in the papers as being a good team, but did not
show much against either Maine or RPI although I think that they
did beat Holy Cross for third place. (The tourney was a round robin in
those days.) I think that Holy Cross had been invited because then-RPI
coach Mike Addessa had recently come to RPI from Holy Cross.

On further reflection and upon reading Jon Greene's message, I suspect
that I, as Jon, was really not there to watch Maine-Vasby, but rather
RPI-Holy Cross (not that that was to prove a good match either).
Anyway, I will look at my scorecard this weekend which I know that I
still have. I suspect that the Vasby goaltender had been shellshocked
by this time and most anything could have gone into the net. If the
topic has not been dropped by that time, I will report on any further
details that I can uncover.

To combine this thread with another one from a few weeks ago, this 1981
RPI Tourney field RPI-Maine-Holy Cross-Vasby is not much different in
quality from the one coming up in December 1993, RPI-Lowell-Army-Mt.
Allison,a s well as many others.
