I will assume the Brian is referring to college hockey only!
 
Anyway, we do have college hockey in California, it just is not at the
NC$$ Division 3 or 1 levels.  The Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA)
is a club level league that includes such schools as Stanford, San Jose State,
USC, UCLA, San Diego State and UCSD (San Diego).  Certainly not the ECAC, etc.
but it does exist.
