From the St. Paul Pioneer Press, 1/22/93:
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association expects to make an
announcement within a few weeks concerning proposals to hold its 1994
playoffs in Milwaukee rather than St. Paul, a spokesman said Thursday.
"We have to talk with the people in St. Paul" where the championship
series has been held for five years, spokesman Doug Spencer said. "It's
been a very good situation for us. We don't want to jeopardize that."
The Milwaukee Sentinel quoted an unidentified source as saying the
Wisconsin Badgers would be the host for next year's tournament, which
matches the WCHA top four teams in a two-day playoff.
The playoffs then might return to St. Paul every other year, the
newspaper said.
From Sid Hartman's column in the Mpls. Star Tribune, 1/22/93:
Gophers assistant coach Mark Mazzoleni has been offered the coaching
job at the University of Massachusetts and the opportunity to start a new
hockey program in a new $50 million arena built for hockey and basketball.
