The Minnestota Golden Gophers moved one step closer to the WCHA title
by winning their school record 13th straight game at Wisconsin by the
score of 2-1. This game was rarely played at full strength, as both
teams were penalized often. The Gophers' defense and goaltending was
the story of the game, as Wisconsin was held to only 13 shots on goal
for the game.

The Badgers opened the scoring with 6 seconds remaining in the 1st period
on a breakaway goal, on only their 3rd shot of the period. Larry Olimb
tied the score early in the 2nd on a powerplay, and Corey Laylin scored
the game winner a few minutes later on a breakaway, just after the Gopher
defense stifled a 4-3 rush by the Badgers.

This win gives the Gophers an 8 point lead over the 2nd place Badgers,
and 11 points over Northern Michigan, which lost to North Dakota. Both
the Badgers and Wildcats have played 2 more games.

go go gophers!!
