What i'm pointing out is that some people do not feel that total points
is the only way to go when assessing the relative ranking among teams.
Baseball, for example, used winning percentage. Baseball's minor leagues
also use winning percentage. When unbalanced schedules prevail, total
points may not be accurate.

one should observe that at the end of the season in the wcha, the
total points and points per conference game will provide the same
ordering. I'm merely observing that perhaps the points per game
statistic may provide a better prognosticator than total points.

Erik's ranking below by size of mascot makes no more sense than ranking
by capacity of arena, distance from the center of mass of the conference,
number of letters in the team name, number of supporters on hockey-l,
quality of the food at the local restaurant, ticket prices, parking costs,
size of athletic department, latitude of the arena, longitude of the
arena, altitude of the arena, serial number on the zamboni, or
anything else unrelated to on ice performance.

Points per conference game provide some trend information. Performance
against common opponents does also. Maybe a statistician would like
to pursue the relative worth of the diverse statististics. Until
then, i'll continue (as time permits) to add points per conference
game to the standings and the scoring stats.
