In a great show of offense from both teams, or perhaps a lousy show of
defense, North Dakota defeated UMD 9-7 Saturday Night, completing a sweep
of the fast falling Bulldogs. UMD frosh Mike Peluso had four goals and
an assist, and Taras Lendzyk got his second assist in two nights, tying a
Bulldog record for assists in a season by a goalie, doubling his career
point total, and moving to within one assist of the Bulldog career assists
by a goalie record. Brett Hryniuk had a hat trick for the visitors.
Both starting goalies struggled, and UND goalie Toby Kvalevog was pulled
after a 70 foot shot from Peluso went in, in the early stages of the
third period. Coach Sertich said at least 5 ND goals were the result of
poor execution on the part of the defense.
UMD plays host to Michigan Tech next weekend at the DECC. Attendance
should continue to fall, unfortunately, and the fans may not be back for
a while.
