FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SCOTT WHITE NAMED ASSISTANT HOCKEY COACH AT MTU
        Ex-MTU Defenseman Excited About Opportunity

Houghton, Mich. -- Scott White, who was a standout defenseman for Michigan
Tech from 1985-89, has been named assistant hockey coach at MTU. The
announcement came today from Bob Mancini, head hockey coach.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to have Scott White at Michigan Tech,"
said Mancini. "It's been four years of not having an alum as part of the
hockey coaching staff and I'm pleased that streak has come to an end. Scott
will do an excellent job for Michigan Tech hockey and is very committed to
being a part of getting this program back where it belongs."
White has spent the last five years playing professional hockey. He
started his post-MTU career competing in Bergen, Norway, for Division I
Bergen/Djerv in 1989-90. Later that year, he moved on to the East Coast
Hockey League where he helped the Greensboro Monarchs to the ECHL Playoff
Championship. During the '90-91 campaign, White spent time with the Kansas
City Blades of the International Hockey League, the Kalamazoo Wings (also
an IHL team), and with Greensboro.
During '91-92, the Ormstown, Quebec, native played the entire year for
Greensboro, where he earned All-ECHL First-Team honors and was also named
the league's best defenseman.
During the summer of 1992, White signed a free agent contract with the
Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. He spent the '92-93 campaign
with the New Haven Senators of the American Hockey League where he earned
team MVP honors.
During '93-94, White played for the Prince Edward Island Senators of the
AHL and the Salt Lake City Golden Eagles of the IHL, before finishing the
year with Greensboro.
"I had some great experiences in professional hockey," said White,
"however, it's time to move on. I'm very excited to be back in Houghton and
I look forward to the challenge ahead."
White is married to the former Kathryn Short of Greensboro, N.C. The
couple have two daughters, Emily, 11, and Katie, 6, and are expecting their
third child in December.
