But every team has already had two "official" overall records for as
long as I can remember. One for all games (except foreign tours and
EX's) and one for games against DivI teams for selection purposes.
The media polls have confused us to no end by sometimes printing only
the DivI record, and other times printing the "overall overall"
record.

HE teams will still have the same two overall records. The difference
is that it will not be true that OverallOverall minus NonDivI equals
DivIRecord, like it will for non-HE teams.

To explain for those who are curious:

Brown beats a Canadian team, then loses to Harvard in an ECAC game.
Brown's records are:
1 ECAC 0-1-0
2 OverallOverall 1-1-0
3 NonDivI 0-1-0
4 DivIRecord 0-1-0

2 minus 3 equals 1. 2 & 4 are Brown's 2 "overall" records.

Now, say Maine beats a Canadian team, then loses to BU in a HE game by
shootout. Maine's records are:
1 *HE 0-1
2 OverallOverall 1-1-0
3 NonDivI 0-1-0
4 DivIRecord 0-0-1

2 minus 3 does not equal 1.

*-I still have to find out if the record would actually be given as
0-1 or 0-0-1, the tie column being changed to "Shootout Losses". It
may be that a game would be considered an HE loss but that some losses
(SO) can still get you a point; there would be only two columns in the
standings.

And if there is a SO loss column, will HE teams have 4 columns in
their OverallOverall record? Wins, Losses, Ties, SO Losses? Gotta
find this out.

>God save the record keepers!
>
>The point? To confuse people.

Well, I wouldn't go quite that far...I think they DON'T want to
confuse people, or else it won't succeed.

I agree with the comment that this is not set in stone. I believe it
is effectively being experimented with for this season. It could just
as easily be dropped next season. However, another distinct
possibility is that it will be a success and the NC$$ Rules Committee
will enact it for all of NC$$ hockey next season.

>Keith, GDHEWBAMF

I'd ask what that means but this is a family list. :-)

>PS At least with the CCHA and their "odd" reffing system, a win is
>a win is a win (and not a tie).

Is the CCHA's odd reffing system "odd" because (pick one):

1) It is different from the system used by other leagues.
2) Each game has an odd number of referees.
3) The referees themselves are weird.
