This morning's Albany T-U reports that Buddy Powers is the number one candidate
to succeed Jerry York as Bowling Green coach. According to the T-U, Powers
"covets" the opening at BG more than the one at BC, for which he was reportedly
a top 3 candidate. A source close at BG told the T-U that Powers was the
leading candidate to replace York.

Powers admitted last week that his two dream jobs were those at his alma mater,
Boston University, and Bowling Green. Powers served six years as an assistant
under York at BG, and helped to recruit the 1984 national championship team.
Powers also has family ties in northwestern Ohio, with most of his wife's
relatives from there.

According to the T-U, the Bowling Green Sentinel, (OK Keith, I want the
article) will report today that Powers is the favorite.

The T-U speculates that Powers' competition will include 8 year Bowling Green
assistant coach Wayne Wilson, who played for both York and Powers at BG.

Powers is currently the fourth winningest coach in RPI history. Before
last season RPI granted him a three-year contract extension, which will expire
in 1996-97.

The T-U adds in the article that York was recently passed over to replace
outgoing Jack Gregory as BG athletic director.

Well, it looks like it's time to start speculating about a new coach for the
Engineers (sigh).
