Michigan goaltender Steve Shield's knee injury does not appear extremely
serious, however he will not see action this weekend. Chris Gordon will
likely get the nod when Michigan travels to Western Michigan tonight and UIC
tomorrow.

Shields may be ready for next weekend when Michigan hosts Ohio State. My
guess is that Shields will also get those games off provided that Gordon has
a good showing this weekend. If the goaltenders struggle at WMU and UIC,
Shields may be hurried back. If he does sit for the next four games,
Shields could break the NC$$ Div I victory record at the CCHA-WCHA
Challenge. He is one win away from tying that mark and four wins short of
tying the CCHA record.

Ironically, Shields would have tied the NC$$ mark in the game he was injured
in had Gordon closed the door on Ferris, Saturday. Chris played well in
relief, allowing 2 power play goals which was enough for him to earn the
victory. (Gordon was in goal when the game-winning third Michigan goal was
scored. Shields left the game with Michigan in the lead.)

The Wolverines have also been working out Derek Billis, Michigan's MR HOCKEY
1992 from Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice, as an emergency goaltender behing
Gordon and Al Loges.
