Wisconsin 5 Alaska-Fairbanks 4

This was a slow game due in part to soft ice. We've had mid-40 degree
the past 4 days and the ice seems to have been affected. Wisconsin
jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 2 periods. Early in the 3rd Jason Zent
wristed in a nice shot on a 2-on-1 and UW led 4-1. The Nanooks came
alive though with their backs to the wall. They scored three straight
goals by forcing turnovers in the UW end and converting quickly. With
the came tied 4-4 Wisconsin came back to life. With 6 minutes left
Andringa fired a slpshot from the point which Blaine Moore redirected
for the game winner. Alaska kept working hard but could not send the
game to overtime. Reserve netminder Jon Michelizzi got the win for
Wisconsin. Todd Henderson(31 saves) played well in goal for the
Fairbanks squad.

From the "not very sporting" file
--------------------------------
(blame the Wis. State Journal for any errors)
Colorado College center John Mooney received his fourth game-
disqualification penalty of the season Sat. when he speared a St. Cloud
State player during the postgame handshake.
On Monday WCHA Otto Breitenbach levied a four game suspension on
the sophomore. Mooney has already missed six games due to previous
transgressions. He also was accused of spearing against Yale and for
fighting--actually, trying to, since he never landed a punch--Northern
Michigan's Dallas Drake and North Dakota's Dane Jackson.

[My comment: He seems to have the spearing down pat. With a little
practice he should be able to land a punch in no time. -:)]
