I followed through on Tony's posting last week, detailing rumors that
Terrier sophomore talent Jay Pandolfo would sign a pro contract soon...

According to BU ass't coach Blaise Macdonald and BU SID Ed Carpenter, there
is no truth to the rumor. As far as they know, Pandolfo is staying put.
(you may recall that Pandolfo was drafted in the 2nd round a month or two
ago). I don't have the exact totals in front of me, but Pandolfo was in the
35-point range in scoring last season as a freshman, and would be a big loss
to the team.

Anyway, Pandolfo is among seven Terriers playing at the Olympic Festival
in Texas this summer. Bob Lachance, Chris O'Sullivan, Bill Pierce, Doug Wood,
Shawn Bates, and Jon Coleman are the others.

And finally, I came across an official list of the 1993-94 hockey recruits.
This may have run in the Globe or been posted a while back, but for the
benefir of those who missed it, here it is:

Name Hgt Wgt Pos High School/Prior team Hometown

Shawn Bates 6-0 170 F Medford Medford, MA

Jon Coleman 6-2 190 D Phillips Andover Canton, MA

Bill Pierce 6-1 192 F Lawrence Academy Burlington, MA

Shane Johnson 5-10 180 D Brandon, MAN Kelowna, B.C.

Mike Grier 6-2 225 F St. Sebastien Holliston, MA

John Hynes Jr. 5-9 165 F Tollgate Warwick, RI

Shawn Ferullo 5-9 155 G Governor Dummer Acad. Lynnfield, MA

Given all the hype a lot of these guys (i.e. Coleman, Bates) received, Coach
Parker is optimistic about the quality of the incoming class, as the Terriers
look for another ticket to the Big Dance next spring. Other than that, there
has been one item to note. Radio coverage of BU hockey games has been granted
to WROL 950 AM, a 5000 watt station just north of Boston. The signal quality
is much improved over last year's carrier, WBIV, which is located some 25
miles west of Boston. For those listening in the metro area, the games should
be easy to pick up, and all games, home and away, will be carried live.

Still no word on what kind of deal Harvard was looking to pull for coverage of
their games. There was talk of dumping the student broadcasters (who had a
reputation in these parts for being just a tad biased) for professionals,
after complaints from alums and administrative types. Richard, do you know
anything about this?

Counting down the days until Oct. 23 when North Dakota comes to town...
