Now that the season is over, let's look back at the preseason analysis
from THE SPORTING NEWS.

1992-93 TSN Preseason Top 20:
  1. MICHIGAN -- OK pick, phinal phour team.
  2. MAINE -- So they didn't know just how good the freshmen would be.
  3. MINNESOTA -- Struggled early, but made the NC$$.
  4. BOSTON UNIV -- Hit this one right on the button.
  5. CLARKSON -- See Minnesota.
  6. LSSU -- Looked like a good pick after the Lakers lost Madeley,
Astley and co., but LSSU didn't want to give up the title.
  7. COLORADO COLLEGE -- Ouch!
  8. MICHIGAN STATE -- A team that didn't reach it's potential, but
will be heard from in 1993-94.
  9. MINN-DULUTH -- Good pick, and a fine season.
 10. BOSTON COLLEGE -- See Colorado College.
 11. HARVARD -- Peaked too early?
 12. WISCONSIN -- Consistent season, made the big dance.
 13. UIC -- See Boston College.
 14. PROVIDENCE -- Hmmm.
 15. NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- Many people still think they were #15, but
Wildcats did themselves proud after a horrid start.
 16. LOWELL -- Good pick.
 17. NORTH DAKOTA -- Not such a good pick.
 18. NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Many thought this was too high, but UNH proved
     them wrong.
 19. RENSSELAER -- The Engineers did slightly better than expected,
but not quite enough to make the NC$$.
 20. MICHIGAN TECH -- Good placement.
NR. MIAMI -- Almost everybody missed this one.
 NR. BROWN -- Ditto.

Note: Please don't flame me for using LOWELL and RENSSELAER. That's
the way TSN had 'em.

As for TSN's All-America candidates:

TSN picked 11 goaltenders including Jamie Ram (MTU), Steve Shields
(Mich) and Mike Dunham (Maine), but no Neil Little (RPI). TSN did
mention Jon Hillebrandt, who wasn't as big as a sophomore as he was
  as a freshman.

TSN listed 22 defensemen including Barry Richter (Wisc), Michael
Smith (LSSU), Jack Duffy (Yale) and Chris Imes (Maine). Not on the
list were Brett Hauer (UMD), Bobby Marshall (Miami), Kaj Linna (BU)
  and Aaron Miller (Vermont).

TSN named 36 candidates among the forwards. They correctly picked
Greg Johnson (UNDak), Derek Plante (UMD), Bryan Smolinski (MSU),
Brian Rolston (LSSU), David Sacco (BU), Mark Kaufmann (Yale) and Jim
Montgomery (Maine). Not on TSN's list were Fred Knipscheer (SCSU),
Brian Savage (Miami), Ted Drury (Harvard), Paul Kariya (Maine) and
Cal Ingraham (Maine). Thus, TSN completely missed 3 of the 4
  conference players-of-the-year.

So much for ceramic dalmations.
