Game Summary:
Junior goalie Shayne White rebounded from a rough time against
Williams in his last start to help the Dutchmen beat the Yellowjackets, 7-4.
Although AIC scored just 2:52 into the game, White kept his poise and went on
to stop 23 shots, including 18 in the third period. Union came back tie on
junior Craig Ferrero's goal, extending his scoring streak to 17 games. He added
three assists for his third career 4-point night. 44 seconds later, Rick
Burchill took a centering pass from Steve Battison to give the Dutchmen a lead
they would never give up.
Jayson Flowers scored 27 seconds into the 2nd period to increase the
lead to 3-1. Although the Dutchmen outplayed the Yellowjackets for most of the
period, the only other score came as AIC's Ken Maffia lifted a shot over
White's shoulder at 13:50.
Union came out strong in the third, scoring twice before the 2:00 mark
on goals by freshman Jeff Jiampetti and junior Dalton Menhall. AIC went on the
power play at 4:16, but couldn't get anything going. Junior Bill Sedergren's
hard shot from the point went in with Union a man down at 4:51 extending the
Union lead to 6-2. AIC scored at 7:08, and went on a full 2-minute 5 on 3
advantage as Union's Rich Burchill and Steve Battison went off at 10:39. The
Dutchmen sucessfully killed off a good part of the penalties, but Ken Maffia
scored his second goal of the night at 12:07. Shayne White kept the lead at 2
goals, stopping some tough shots, and Dalton Menhall finished the scoring with
2 seconds left when he hit the empty net.

The Dutchmen improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fall
to 7-3 in the ECAC East and 7-4 overall. Union will finish out the first half
of the season on the road at UMass-Boston on Saturday night. Following the
break, the Dutchmen will face RPI on December 28 in the opening round of the
RPI Invitational Tournament.
