For those who are interested in the continuing hockey careers of
former college players:

The local newspaper provided the following morsels and tidbits (due
to recent events unrelated to hockey but quite familiar to any
Marquette list members I'm a bit skeptical about things reported in
our local sheet, but . . . )

Jim Hiller spent three weeks with the L.A. Kings and seems to have
greatly enjoyed the experience. From the story it wasn't clear
whether he ever got on the ice for a game, but I don't think he did.
He did include a nice little story about sitting in a hot tub with
Wayne Gretzky at Gretzky's place, looking over the lights of the
big city and talking hockey. Jim is continuing his course work at
NMU and is looking forward to next season in the pros; he seems
confident now, after practicing (at least) with the Kings that he
can play in the NHL at some point.

Dallas Drake was reported two days ago as being very close to
signing a good-sized contract with the Red Wings. (However he said
reports around town that he had taken out a $45,000 loan to buy a
Porsche were greatly exaggerated; he "only" bought a Dodge Stealth
and the loan wasn't anything like $45K.)

Scott Beattie continues to explore European contracts, as evidently
do a couple of other recent Wildcat grads.
