UMASS-LOWELL 4, at PROVIDENCE 1 (USAir Championship)
UML jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the 13:25 mark of the second period
on goals by Mike Murray (tourney MVP) & Dan O'Connell and a SHG by Greg
Carter. Erik Peterson got PC's only goal with 6:10 left in the second.
Mark Richards stopped 28 shots for Lowell and made the All-Tourney Team.
Mike Heinke had 31 saves for PC as the Friars were outshot, 35-29.

at PROVIDENCE 7, ARMY 1 (USAir semifinal)
The Friars outshot Army 43-14 on route to the win. Marc Doshan and
Peterson sandwiched goals around Army's lone goal by Tardif to give PC
a 2-1 lead after one. They added three in the second and two in the third.
Defenseman Chris Therien had 1-2--3, freshman Chad Quenneville had three
assists, and Gary Socha had two goals for the Friars. Heinke had 13
saves for PC and Army's Boyle stopped 36 shots in a losing cause.

at VERMONT 9, BOSTON COLLEGE 3
The Catamounts roared out to a 4-0 first period and made it 6-0 in the
third before BC got on the board. Freshman Dominique Ducharme led the
Cats with 2-2--4, and Toby Kearney had 1-3--4. BC goals came from
Beran and Franzosa (2); all three came between 9:52 and 13:50 of the third
and cut the UVM lead to 6-3 before Vermont scored the game's final 3 goals.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 4, at COLGATE 3
David Sacco had 2-1--3 to lead BU. Colgate's Brad Dexter and Sacco swapped
first-period goals and the game remained 1-1 until late in the second.
Then, Kevin O'Sullivan & Mike Prendergast made it 3-1 to end the period and
Sacco scored ten seconds into the third for the game-winner. Cashman
notched his second win in net for the 2-0 Terriers.

at NORTHEASTERN 5, SALEM STATE 3
Paul Sacco and Sebastien Laplante scored late goals to break a 3-3 tie
and keep the Huskies undefeated. Goalie Scott Hopkins, who left
Northeastern last season and transferred to DivIII Salem, had 39 saves
against his former team and almost earned the win. The Huskies went out
to a 3-0 lead on a first-period goal by Geoff Lucas and second-period
tallies by Laplante and Chris Foy before the Vikings scored three straight
to tie it up. Tony St Cyr made it 3-1 before the end of the second and
teammate Curt Mallette scored twice at 3:19 and 10:19 of the third. Tom
Cole stopped 16 Salem shots to get the win; NU had a 44-19 edge in shots.

MICHIGAN STATE 2, at BOSTON COLLEGE 2 (ot)
Both teams scored twice in the second for the game's only goals. Franzosa
gave BC a 1-0 lead before Kelly Harper got the Spartans on the board. Then
Jack Callahan and MSU defenseman Nicholas Perreault exchanged goals. Josh
Singewald had 21 saves for BC and Mike Gilmore stopped 22 Eagle shots.
Before the game, MSU coach Ron Mason presented a plaque to the only man
with more lifetime victories than him (660 to 627), Len Ceglarski,
commemorating the home opener of Ceglarski's final season behind the bench.
It was probably fitting that the game ended in a tie.

at MAINE 4, KENT 2
Scott Shaw stopped 38 shots for Kent in what must have been one of the
greatest one-man shows in recent memory, as his teammates could only put
a game total of *six* shots on Maine goalie Garth Snow. Brian Downey got
the only goal of the first period for Maine, but Ross Antonini tied for
Kent early in the second. Jean-Yves Roy put Maine ahead 2-1 less than
three minutes later, but Antonini (ok, maybe a 1.5 man show) tied it again
at 11:07. Incredibly, the Golden Flashes had taken the nation's #1 team
to overtime the night before and were now tied heading into the third on
the second night. But Randy Olson and Chris Imes scored in the latter
half of the period to give Maine the win. It had to be the sweetest sweep
that Kent coach Bill Switaj has ever endured.

Boston College announced that it was informed on Friday (11/1) that the
eligibility of goalie Scott LaGrand had been restored by the NCAA
effective with the Hockey East opener at Merrimack this coming Wednesday
11/6...just as Mike Zak said a while ago.
