Many have speculated on the reason that the LSSU/MSU game which should have
been played in Sault Ste. Marie this year (MSU gets the 2-1 home ice since the
Spartans venture up to Seward's Folly [no offense intended] to play UAF) was
scheduled for Joe Louis Arena on February 17. IMV, a few people have come up
with the correct reason, namely $$$$$$$$. I don't know the specifics of the
benefits for Lake Superior (as some others have mentioned) but it seems reason-
able that that game would have a huge draw in Detroit, with many Spartan and
Laker alumni in the area and both teams having trouble getting those fans to
see games in their home arenas (LSSU due to the distance, MSU due to the fact
that you can't get a ticket) and that prices in JLA are a bit higher (may
qualify here as understatement of the pre-season).

For MSU, there is an added benefit, in that the Spartans are scheduled to play
Michigan the next night at JLA, thus making the trip a little more worthwhile
for those of us in the Lansing area (especially those of us who will be dragginginfants to Detroit).

In closing, I would like to thank Jerry Stephens for forgetting that little 11-1pasting the Lakers laid on us a couple of years ago up in the Soo. (Some of
us can still hear that foghorn coming through the radio.)

Which MSU team shows up in West Lafayette this week? Hopefully, the road team
that went to Louisville, since the home team is still trying to figure out the
make of the truck with the Nebraska plates.
