This was the season-opening series for St. Cloud, and the second series
for Wisconsin. St. Cloud had the extra week of practice (without a
game), but Wisconsin had the extra two games last weekend against
Michigan Tech. The advantage in this seemed to go to Wisconsin, in two
areas: Coach Sauer adjusted his lines this week, and the Wisconsin had
more stamina and seemed to pace themselves better both nights.

Wisconsin skated 5 freshmen and 6 sophomores.

The large ice at the National Hockey Center seemed to favor the Badgers,
once they adjusted to it.

Wisconsin's power play was impressive on the weekend (5 of 13), except
that some of the goals came on broken plays. Saturday night the power
play sometimes had trouble getting out of their defensive end. Once they
got setup however, they put a lot of pressure on goal.

Derksen was called upon to make several spectacular saves saturday
night. SCS coach Craig Dahl said his team improved 100% from friday
night.

Greg (?) Shepard was the ref. He called some of the "new emphasis"
penalties, but not as tight as things were called last weekend.
