Boston C 1-0-2 3

Shots:
Clarkson 7-12-8 27
Boston C 10-5-17 32

The first period started off like the previous night, the home team came
out and took control of the game, generating some solid offense. BC
was able to withstand it and apply some of their own. During 4-on-4
play, BC entered the Clarkson zone. Cleary had passed to Franzosa in
the neutral zone. Across the blue line, Franzosa passed across ice to
Pacucci who let a shot go that beat Rogles inside of the post at 5:36.
On their only power play of the period, Clarkson scored. Clarkson was
able to set up their pp on several attempts, but with no success until
Tavi started out of the Clarkson zone. He sent a pass up to a streaking
Tuomainen. Tuomainen sent a pass across through two BC defensemen to a
wide open Dubinsky on the wing. Dubinsky knocked the puck out of mid
air onto goal. Singewald going back, was able to get a little of his
glove on the puck but not enough. The goal was at 9:13. Clarkson went
ahead just over a minute later when Dave Green scored at 10:27 from Sabo
and Theriault. BC was to have 6 pp opportunities in the period. The
best chance came when they went 5-on-3 for a full two minutes. It had
been 5-on-4 for 1:07 when a second penalty was called. Then 11 sec.
later, a penalty was called on Rogles. Clarkson was able to withstand
the pressure by playing inspired defense and having Rogles make some
good saves. It looked like Clarkson's special teams just picked up from
where they left off last season. The defense looked really solid, only
allowing 4 shots on goal before the extended penalty killing. Not like
last year when 15 shots were allowed in the first period on average.

In the second period, Clarkson scored 6 goals in just over 16 minutes.
First was Fotheringham during a scrammble after a shot from the point.
Goal was at 2:40 with assists to Anderson and Merchant. Next, Ed
Henrich put a low slap shot from the point past Singewald at 3:11.
Marchant was the first freshman to score when he went in on a 2-on-1.
He held the puck and put it in at 6:53 with an assist to Fotheringham.
Clarkson would get the next two goals during 3-on-3 play. Sparrow had
replaced Singewlad half way through the period. A previously planned
move. Dubinsky scored the first 3-on-3 goal at 14:21 on a nice
criss-crossing passing play with the assists going to the other players,
Tavi and Thomas. Marchant got his second goal on an impressive end to
end rush, beating the BC defenseman and Sparrow at 4:19 with an assist
to freshman Mueller. Dubinsky completed his hat trick when put a
rebound in at 18:58 from Anderson. Mid way thorugh the period, Ed Sabo
of Clarkson was given a major penalty and game DQ when he speared a BC
player. However, BC was not able to apply any pressure when they took
two penalties during the major. They even gave Clarkson a 4-on-3 pp for
37 sec. Clarkson really cranked up the offense and were on a roll
during the period.

BC won the final period thanks to two pp goals to Clarkson's one.
Clarkson made it 9-1 when Belanger scored off of a rebound at 4:36,
assited by Robitaille and Henrich. Clarkson was playing a hard hitting
game and was getting frustrated by the calls ref Earle was making. They
had been called for 6 penalties in the first period and 3 in the second.
About half way through the final period, Thomas checked a BC player into
the boards when going for the puck. Thomas took exception to this and
fired the puck at shoulder level right by ref Earle. And then the brain
cell clicked in and he knew he was in trouble: 2 min for boarding, 5 min
major for accosting the ref and a game DQ. The boarding call was
consistent with what Earle had been calling all night. Clarkson was to
be penalized 12 times during the night to BC's 4. Clarkson is going to
have correct this. BC scored its second goal early in the major when
Rathbone redirected a Hall shot past Rogles. On their final pp, BC
would score again when Haggerty beat Rogles at 16:52 from Rathbone.

Impressions: The freshmen looked very, very good. Marchant (5'11",
160#) had two gaols and one assist. Tuaomainen had an assist, as did
Mueller and Robitaille. All of the forwards were speedy and hard
working. Marchant has exceptional stick handling skills as does
defenseman Mueller. I was duly impressed. The defense looks more solid
than last years. All of the juniors have benefitted from the past two
years of experience. Rogles looked very sharp in net. Only the first
goal looked soft. The offense was flying. The bigger ice surface will
definitely help this team. The tendency for penalties and tempers does
need to be brought under control. It looks real good for the season.
Too bad BU didn't make it up here for the weekend.

As for BC, getting LaGrand back for game No. 6 vs. Merrimack will help.
(mike, LaGrand was SURE of playing this game.) Cleary will be the
backbone of the defense while Rathbone and especially Franzosa look to
be the scoring leaders.
