Boston College 2-1-0 3
St. Lawrence 1-0-1 2

Shots:
BC 7-10-8 25
SLU 8-11-19 38

Power Play
BC: 0 for 4
SLU: 1 for 7

SLU came out skating and hitting well. Keeping the play mostly in the
BC zone, SLU tallied first when Kappeller shot a low wrist shot by BC
goalie Singewald's stick side. The goal was at 5:33 and assisted by
M. Lappin and Meany. I had noticed that Singewald had missed a few
low stick side shots during warm-ups. SLU was to keep control of
the play for the first half of the period. They were forechecking
well and making BC turn the puck over in their defensive zone. However
BC was the next to score. BC scored at 10:25 when McCarthy shot on
Spagnoletti. Spagnoletti must have thought the puck was going else
where becaused he seemed off-balance as the puck went off of his skate
abd into the goal. Krayer and Rathbone received assists on the goal.
BC went ahead at the 12:09 mark when Haggerty intercepted an SLU clearing
pass and slid it across to Hall who sent a low shot in through a well
screened Spagnoletti. Joyce of BC was also credited with an assist.
SLU would miss fire on a couple of plays during the period, and for the
rest of the game. Being their first game, their timing wasn't on. SLU
did seem a little tired in the end of the period. A period when BC did
not play or control the game that well, but got all of the bounces.

Again in the second period, 70% of the play was in BC's defensive zone
while BC got the only goal. It was a short handed goal. Beran intercepted
a pass out to an SLU point, brought it down and got around the SLU defense-
man covering him for a back handed shot from behind the end line. The puck
went under the new SLU goalie, Giroux, and trickled in during some shoving
and digging for the puck. There were no assists. Spagnoletti and Giroux
split the goal tending duty evenly. They blocked all of the shots they
should have (except one) and looked consistant, but they weren't tested
too hard.

SLU tested Singewald heavily in the third period. He was perfect minus one.
On the power play, McCourt shot from the point. Meany, half way to the goal
redirected the puck past Singewald at 3:05, with an assist to Dent. This
gave SLU plenty of time to tie the game up. They sure did try. BC coughed
the puck up a couple of times in their own zone, leaving Singewald to make
a big save. Singewald must be much improved since the Team USA and Canada
games. SLU also miss-fired and hit the post on other tries. BC was able to
keep SLU out of their zone during the last three minutes of play.

Edwards was the referee for the game. He called a good game. However, I
thought that there were some cases when some excess holding and interference
should have been called in light of the new emphasis on these points. It
wasn't a clutch and grab game and some of the extended holding and wrestling
to the ice was called. As for the red line and icing, there were some dump
ins which I thought should have gone for icing. They were clearly behind
the red line. However, they were usually during equal rushes and the call
would have disrupted the flow of the game.

SLU looked pretty good for their first game, lacking a little timing and making
some errant passes. They cleared their zone well and were hitting in the
first period. One thing I did notice is that they lacked their trade mark
offensive speed. It was probbaly because it was still early in the season
and the lungs weren't all there. BC played the same solid, but unexciting,
hockey all night. Not too much offensive flare and some defensive mistakes.
However, they did make good on their chances. Both teams looked piss poor
during their power plays.
