Better late than never -- I guess I kept hoping somebody else would type this in! By the way, if anyone has the Clarkson-Brown boxscore, I'd really like to get it (mail me offline, please.)

(1) The Brown game.

I was unfortunately not at this game, but I wish I had been! A friend who could listen to the game on Clarkson's radio station said he'd give me a quick call on every goal. Boy was he sorry! After the 10-2 finish, his phone bill really took a beating. (He actually called 13 times, once just before a Brown goal was waived off.) Clarkson won the regular season ECAC title with this win, their 6th overall and first since '90-91.

So, the only decent information I can offer are some quotes from the Boston Globe regarding the game.

First off, the cutesy headline was "Clarkson downs Brown for crown".

The following post-game quotes were reported:

Brian Mueller, D, Clarkson -- "We had four games at home, and all we had to do was win two of them. We played well for two out of four, but we ran into hot goaltenders, and they shut us down. We felt we were playing well coming into tonight. We haven't won a league title in my four years. We wanted to leave a legacy behind. We worked hard tonight and it meant alot to us and now we've got a bid to the NCAAs. I don't think we've reached our true potential yet."

Bob Gaudet, coach, Brown -- "We just didn't get it done tonight. I thought we played a good first period, but then we started to press. They're good. They've got some snipers. We found ways to become unlucky. You're going to have some adversity. We've got to bounce back. They really beat us tonight. It was very decisive. It's disappointing. We've worked hard to get the program to this point."

Other facts reported in the article: Brown had a 15-12 first period edge in SOG, but Clarkson took better advantage of their opportunities, taking the 3-1 lead. Gaudet sat Parsons down after Clarkson took a 6-1 lead at 6:31 of the second. It was Brown's worst defeat since a 10-1 loss at Umass-Lowell in January 1994.

MINI-BOXSCORE -- gleaned from article (?? means the article didn't specify)

(2) The Harvard game.

This game I did have the pleasure of seeing! I'll try to make my comments brief, then include Boston Globe quotes, then the boxscore:

o This was the first regular season win at Harvard for the Knights since the
1980-81 season! (I knew I hadn't seen them win since I've lived in the
    Boston area.)
o Clarkson DID manage a win and a tie AT Harvard in '83-84 (@ Bright?) to win
an ECAC tournament first round matchup. (Clarkson ended that particular
season with a loss to Minn-Duluth in a total goals NCAA match, 2-6 & 6-3.)
o Back to THIS game: I was struck by several things about the Harvard crowd.
On several occasions they cheered an upcoming penalty, only to finally
realize it was on them! Also, my friend's wife was on crowd patrol: 8 fur
coats and a KNITTER in the Pep Band!
o As you'll see from the box, a penalty-ridden game. Several calls were kind
of tight and could have been let go. These went both ways, I thought.
o Dan Murphy was incredible for the first 35 minutes, and after a tough
stretch, most of which Harvard was on the Power Play, he returned again to
outstanding form. He had (by my count) 2 "GREAT" saves in the 1st and 2 more
in the 3rd. A couple were one on one. He also came up with 6 saves late in
    the 1st while Harvard had a 2-minute 2-man advantage.

From the Globe:

Headline: "Clarkson on top of game"
Subhead: "ECAC champ rises to occasion with comeback win over Harvard"

The Globe called the game "raucous ... punctuated by a rash of penalties", and said the game "got out of hand as referees John Melanson and John Gallagher called 31 penalties, 18 on Clarkson." The article went on to say that "...Clarkson's freshman goaltender Dan Murphy performed a number of acrobatic feats in a 17-save first period."

Quotes:

Ronn Tomassoni, coach, Harvard: "We finished where we started, but I think we're feeling alot better about ourselves than we were. I think there's been many a time this year people have put the nail in our coffin. To the credit of these guys they haven't given up. We've obviously got to be focused each night no matter who we play." He also said: "There's too much banging just for the sake of banging. I think it's ruined the game."

Mark Morris, coach, Clarkson: "It was hard to get any type of flow going. I'm sure it's not fun for the fans. It's not fun for our team. Trying to find enough guys rested that you could throw out on the ice to kill penalties was quite a chore. It's too bad it has to be that way. You've got two of the best skating and most skilled teams in the league and you'd like to see more of a flow game."
