Not true.  NCAA Rule 3-4 b. says, among other things:
 
   If a goalkeeper's mask and/or helmet is displaced, there shall
   be an immediate whistle.
 
This also happened in a recent Maine game and cost Maine an apparent,
to some :), goal.
