Tonight's game saw a BGSU team that had made a huge rebound from last weekend
challenge the U of Michigan hockey squad. As in the last two games, tonight's
contest was exciting and an all-around enjoyable game.

Michigan saw the only 1st period action when Mike Knuble scored just as the
Wolverine's power play hit 0 seconds (If you count that as a power play goal -
all of Michigan's goals were power play goals).

In the second period BGSU and Michigan traded a pair of goals eaBG's Will
Clarke makes an excellent save only to have a hard
angle rebound scored by Kevin Hilton from the left side low at 9:59 (PP). BG
was to light the light just 34 seconds later when BG's Mike Johnson drives on
 goal
pulling Turco around the right side of the net - setting up a beautiful back
pass to a waiting Mike Hall who has nothing between him and the back side of
the net.
Michigan was to score again on the powerlay as Brendan Morrison's shot from
the blueline goes through unseen at 15:18. BG was to round out the period at
16:26 with a goal that goes down both as the most unbelievable fluke of the
night
and the most incredible goal I remember in years. BGSU's Brett Punchard skates
toward the blueline and shoots toward the left boards (to all eyes {including
Turco's} apparently dumping along the boards, leaves the net to play the
puck; and while out of goal, the puck bounces straight at the crease and
scores unassisted. Kevin Lune's shot for BG was to tie the game at 1:02,
and at this point many of us were reminded
of the last meeting between these 2 teams which went into overtime. John
Madden's goal at 8:40, however, put away those thoughts as Michigan went
ahead for good. The Falcons called time at 19:26 (which to this observer
seemed a little late to set up anything), but whatever the plan was - it never
materialized, as the Falcons could not gain control in those closing seconds.
  The game ended 4-3 Michigan
