Summary:

Union goalie Trevor Koenig earned the first earned the first Division
I shutout for Union and Chris Albert had a hat trick in Union's 6-0
win at St. Lawrence.

Albert, playing in his 100th career game, opened the scoring for Union
with a power play goal, and the Dutchmen never looked back. Albert
finished the night with 3 goals and 2 assists, while Captain Cory
Holbrough assisted on all 6 of Union's goals. John Sicinski scored
twice and Reid Simonton once.

The other big story is Koenig. The freshman has now won the starting
job over seniors Mike Gallant and Luigi Villa. Koenig has played the
last 4 games for Union (2-1-1). But this was his best performance
yet. He stopped all 40 shots he faced, becoming the first Union
goalie to have a shutout since Ron Kinghorn shut out Williams College
back in January of 1990. Koenig credited his defense for clearing the
rebounds when they needed to. The shutout is even more impressive
when you consider that St. Lawrence had 8 chances on the power play in
the game.

The win moves Union over St. Lawrence in the standings with a record
of 4-7-3 (7-10-3 overall). This also marks the first time in 4 North
Country trips that the Dutchmen have gotten any points, and their first
ever season sweep of the Saints. Union will look to move up in the
ECAC standings when they travel to struggling Vermont and Dartmouth.
Union took 3 points against those teams at Achilles last weekend.
