UMD came off of a three point weekend versus Denver last weekend, and
repeated themselves, earning three points on the road against Michigan
Tech. The Dogs went up 3-0 in the first with 2 goals from Rusty
Fitzgerald. The period was marred by 14 penalties on each team,
including 3 10-minute misconducts, 2 on UMD. UMD's leading scorer, Brad
Federenko drew 12 minutes of penalties in the first period, and 17 for
the game, 4 short of UMD's single game record. Tech made it a game in
the second with 4 goals, two coming just 28 seconds apart, and one coming
just 24 seconds after Federenko had increased the Bulldog lead to two
goals. UMD had 92 seconds of 5 on 3 hockey and couldn't score at the end
of the second and the early part of the third. Federenko drew a major
penalty (Or more correctly, the fans called a major) and the momentum
seemed to be headed back to Tech at 08:38 of the third. But the Bulldogs
killed off 3:37 of that penalty, and Tech's Jason Wright took an
interference call to end the power play. The Dogs added an empty netter
to seal a 5 game unbeaten streak (3-0-2).

UMD travels to North Dakota next weekend just 5 points away from the
upper division and a home playoff spot. Saint Cloud State University,
with whom the Dogs are tied for eighth place with after this weekend,
visits the DECC the following weekend.
