As Tony Biscardi said Sunday (in an article which, for some reason I didn't
receive until yesterday), the Maine media is wrong when if they think BU and
Maine are arch-rivals. Sure, there's a lot of tension between the Terriers
and Black Bears on the ice because for the last few seasons (barring the past
one on Maine's part) they've been the two strongest teams in Hockey East. As
Tony has made clear, though, BU's hated foes (okay, a bit strong, call it
poetic license) are the Eagles of BC.

Well, any Maine journalist worth his salt should also know that Maine would
much rather beat New Hampshire than any other team around. The rivalry
between the two schools has spawned the same kind of t-shirts as Tony
mentioned, substituting Maine for BU and UNH for BC, of course. Black Bear
fans will cheer any score announced at Alfond that has UNH with the shorter
end of the stick, no matter whether the Wildcats are a threat to their team's
standing or not.

Is the case the same in New Hampshire? Any UNH fans care to comment?
