The Harvard announcers must be something! I was listening to the
Maine broadcast so I don't know what the Harvard announcers were
actually saying, but part way through the game the Maine people
(professionals - not students) began laughing at their opposite
numbers next to them in the booth. There was considerable doubt
the two sets were watching the same game.

I wonder if this "my team right or wrong" attitude is the source
of a lot of the ref-bashing which seems to prevail in the ECAC.
I haven't seen ECAC refs too often, but the ones I've seen don't
seem particularly horrid. If you don't think your team can do
any wrong and you want touch fouls called on your opponents, you're
bound to dislike the referees. This is especially true if you don't
know the rules in the first place - a problem that also seems to
plague a lot of complainers.

The Harvard coach made a small attempt (after the game!) to make
it a major Hockey East - ECAC confrontation, but actually both
he and Walsh seemed to regard it more as an exhibition and chance
to try out some things. Harvard needed a tune-up after their two
week break before heading back into league play and Maine is
winding down to begin their break. As Mike mentioned, both
switched goalies at the half-way point. Since Mike had only the
Harvard end to listen to, he doesn't know that Maine went back to
Blair Marsh for the third period. Allison's back muscles seized
up during the break and so he only played about 10 min.

Maine's power play teams (both offense and defence) have been
disorganized all season. They occasionally seem to get it
together, but quickly fall apart again. This is partly due to
the injury situation among the blue-liners, but mostly due to
inexperience. We're hoping the situation improves as the
injured return and the youngsters settle in.
