Seventeen schools are represented among the 21 players and three coaches
chosen for the West squad. Two players each from Miami of Ohio,
Michigan, Michigan State, and Minnesota-Duluth lead the talented squad,
which also features five players from Division II-III schools. The
three-man coaching staff is made up of Ron Mason, head coach at Michigan
State University, Steve Nelson, head coach at Wisconsin-Superior, and
Jim Knapp, assistant coach at Minnesota-Duluth.

Thank you for your service to HOCKEY-L and your many fine postings. Let me
suggest one change in your terminology which will correct and enhance your
contribution. The institution to which you incorrectly refer to as "Miami of
Ohio" is Miami University. "Miami of Ohio" is one of those unfortunate terms
inflicted upon us by the press and those who are not cognizant of U.S. history
and geography. Miami is the second oldest public institution west of the
Alleghenies. We were a university 36 years before Florida was a state!! The
Miami Indians were in this valley for many years and their name adorns many
town and geographic features--for example, the Miami Valley, Miamitown,
Miamisburg, Miamiville, Miami County, and the Great Miami River, to name a few.

In hockey, there is no confusion with the name Miami. The Hurricanes do not
play CCHA hockey. Miami University in Oxford Ohio is the real Miami. Perhaps
the other place should be known as "Miami of Florida."
