I know you've been waiting with bad breath -- oops, BATED breath -- for the
Pick the Post-Season Tournaments contest results, so here we go...
With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #1, in which the later
rounds were weighted more than the earlier ones, the overall winner is...
Nathan Hampton
whose 203 points were nine better than runner-up Mark Lewin.
Congratulations to Nathan, you lucky son-OF-A -- excuse me, well done on
some excellent prognosticating.
As for the individual conference winners...
Nick Markham topped the ECAC with 43 points.
The Hockey East title went to Jay Punwar with a perfect 48 points.
Nathan Hampton's 60 points were good for first place in the CCHA race.
The WCHA was an unmitigated disaster as far as prognosticating was
concerned, as there was not one entry which correctly forecasted either of
the semifinalists. First place in the WCHA race went to William Sangrey,
who needed only 19 points to take the title.
Atlantic Hockey saw a tie between Mark Lewin and Jim Dixon, with 36 points
each. Mark won the first tiebreaker, as his predicted championship-game
score was two points closer than Jim's.
From last week's update, William Krebs won the CHA race in a tiebreaker,
with a perfect 40 points.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (painfully, I mean actually,
6-2) to be 5-3, you would get two points; if you picked 1-0, you would get
six points; and if you picked 3-2, you would get three points. Obviously,
the lower the point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For Atlantic Hockey, the championship game score was 5-2.
For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 4-2.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win.
