ST. CLOUD STATE TAKE TWO FROM OHIO STATE:  The women's ice hockey team
swept the #8 team in the nation this past weekend at the OSU Ice Arena in
Columbus, Ohio.  The Huskies were down 2-0 Friday night when Jennifer
Swanson (Rosemount) scored her first goal of the season with five minutes
left in the second period.  Roxy Stang (Princeton) and Rachel Denner (N.
Lancaster, Ont.) scored the next two goals to put SCSU up 3-2.  The
Buckeye's Shana Frost tied the game with less than a minute remaining in
regulation.  Denner scored the game winning goal with seven ticks left on
the clock to give the Huskies their seventh win of the season.  Junior
defender Fiona McLeod (Toronto, Ont.) tallied three assists for St. Cloud.
The Huskies took a quick lead Saturday night against Ohio State.
First-year defender Kobi Kawamoto (Surrey, B.C.) scored her ninth goal of
the season and Denner scored her eleventh goal on the year in the first
period.  Kawamoto scored again in the second period to put St. Cloud up
3-0.  The Buckeye's finally got one past sophomore goaltender Laura
Gieselman (Annandale) in the third period, but it wasn't enough for Ohio
State.  Doyle scored the last goal of the game with seven minutes remaining
in the third with an assist from Abby Cooper (Washington, MI).  OSU had 68
shots on goal to SCSU's 34 shots on goal over the weekend.  Gieselman made
some impressive saves in the series, notching her saves percentage to .894
in 15 games at the net.  St. Cloud (8-8-1 overall, 4-5-1 WCHA) returns to
the National Hockey Center January 5th against Niagara.  Game time is at
5:05 p.m.

2000-01 TEAM CAPTAINS: The team captains for the 2000-01 season are junior
defenders Tara McNamara and assistant captain Katy Battis.

HEAD COACH: Kerry Brodt Wethington is in her third season as the head coach
for the women's hockey program at St. Cloud State. She joined the staff in
1998-99, and is the first women's hockey coach in the history of the
program at SCSU Brodt Wethington is a 1995 graduate of SCSU. She is also a
coach for the U.S. Community Olympic Development Program for girls ice
hockey and the founder and director of the Skater's Link Hockey Clinic.

ASSISTANT COACHING STAFF: David Prokop is the first-ever assistant coach
hired for the SCSU women's hockey team. He joined the staff in1998-99, and
since that time has been one of the team's top recruiters.  Prokop
graduated with a bachelors degree from Concordia College in Moorhead Jean
Vaillancourt joined the staff at SCSU in 1999-2000. He brings a varied
hockey background to the SCSU program, having coached both men and women in
Ontario. Vaillancourt earned a degree in Human Kinetics form the University
of Ottawa in 1997.


THE OPPONENTS: Niagara's head coach, Margot Page is in her second season as
the women's hockey coach.  Niagara was 28-28-5 (two seasons) entering into
the 2000-01 season.  Junior forward Stephanie Romain leads her team in
points with 14 (6-8-14) in 16 games of play.  Niagara is tied for 8th place
in the ECAC D-I conference.  They currently hold a 7-8-1 overall record,
3-8-1 in the ECAC.  Bemidji State is currently in sixth place in the WCHA
(4-12-0 overall, 3-7-0 WCHA).  BSU is led by Amber Fryklund.  In 16 games,
Fryklund has eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.  The Beavers are
coached by Ruthann Cantile.  Cantile holds a career record of 17-38-2 while
at Bemidji State.

LIVE FROM KVSC: KVSC 88.1 FM will broadcast two remaining games this season
for the Huskies. KVSC will be at the Huskies February 16th game at 7:05
p.m., and February 17th at 3:05 p.m. against MN-Duluth at the National
Hockey Center. If you can't make it to the game, be sure to tune in!

SCSU RANKINGS:  Currently, two Huskies are in the top ten in the league for
most points scored.  Doyle (6-9-15) and McLeod (4-11-15) are tied for 10th
place, averaging 1.5 points per game.  McLeod is 9th on the list from most
assists with 11 and Doyle is in second place for most power play points.
Doyle, who is 5-4-9 in power play points, is right behind Wisconsin's
Meghan Hunter (7-9-16).  As a team, the Huskies are third in the WCHA for
power play percentage.  In 10 league games, SCSU has converted 16 of 59
power plays for goals, a 27.1 percent rate.

FINAL 1999-00 RECORD: The Huskies finished the 1999-2000 season with an
overall record of 13-19-3 and a 6-15-3 record in the WCHA.

1999-2000 SEASON WRAP: Finishing atop the scoring chart for SCSU was
sophomore forward Fiona McLeod, who scored 18 goals and 12 assists for 30
points in 1999-2000.  McLeod's 30 points makes her the all-time leading
scorer in the short history of SCSU women's hockey Finishing just behind
McLeod in scoring was first year forward Jennifer Swanson, who tallied 11
goals and 18 assists for 29 points..  Other leading scorers for SCSU were
sophomore Amanda Presenger (8-10-18), first year forward Abby Cooper
(9-6-15), first year forward Erin McNamara (7-10-17), and junior forward
Rachel Denner (9-4-13

HUSKY INFO:   Junior defender and assistant captain Katy Battis (W. St.
Paul) is out for several weeks with a grade 2 MCL strain which she suffered
Oct. 20 against MSU-Mankato Amanda Mathison suffered a head injury against
Findlay on Nov. 10 and is expected to return in January Denner sustained a
neck injury at Ohio Sate on December 9th, her return is not yet known  The
February 23rd game against Ohio State will begin at 3:05 p.m., not at 4:05
p.m.  The Huskies earned their first wins of the 2000-2001 season with
double wins on Oct. 20-21 against MSU-Mankato, 5-1 and 6-1 a next two
current SCSU players have played all three season of Husky hockey - Tara
McNamara and Sondra Diaz-Arntzen.  McNamara has appeared in all 57 of the
games played at St. Cloud State in two seasons.
