In the NCAA, goaltenders are required to serve their own majors and
misconducts, but not minors.  In the situation of a major, an additional
player must go to the box with the goalie since the goalie may not go on
the ice at the end of the 5:00 because the team would have 2 goalies on the
ice.  See NCAA rules 4-7a and 4-7b.
 
This is different than USA Hockey where all minors, majors, and 10 min.
misconducts called on the goalie are served by a player on the ice at the
time of the infraction other than the goalie.  See USA Hockey rule 407a.
 
I believe that the NHL is the same as USA Hockey in this regard, but do not
have a rulebook, so I cannot be absolutely certain.
