UAH is a Division II school. Starting in about the late-80s,
there was no championship for schools playing D-II in hockey. As
a result, UAH opted up as a D-I independent for a few years. When
D-II teams became eligible for a championship 5 or 6 seasons ago,
UAH dropped back down to D-II in hockey. UAH has been playing D-II
for at least the past five seasons. (They've won 2 titles and been
runner-up two other times during those five years. All those series have
been against Bemidji State. It's a good little rivalry.)
I think there's some stuff in the hockey3 archives about the D-II/III
championships that hockey-l readers might want to check out.
