This was in the Dakota Student opinion I think it is funny and is
probably a tounge in cheek type of article. I thought it was thouht
provoking.
Michigan State U. fan wants match with UND for 'real
championship
By Joshua Nixon - 1997 Michigan State University alumni
Just a general comment from one highly annoyed hockey fan
to another. I know I can't speak for every Michigan State
hockey fan, but I'm sure that most of us here, as well as
most of you, know that the "championship" game between
the University of Michigan and Boston College (played
last Saturday night) is a meaningless farce.
I've been waiting all year to watch the REAL game, the
one I thought I would see -- UND vs. Michigan State.
We've been trading off the top spot all season (although,
admittedly, you guys have been on top a lot more than we
have!). We all know that State and UND have the best two
teams in college hockey. So why does your team have to
travel halfway across the country to play in the
"regional" playoff? Why does the NCAA insist upon a
one-game series, when everybody knows that anyone can
have a bad day?
We should organize a protest. We should stage our own
playoff. Call it an exhibition game, if you must. But I
really think that if the best two teams in the nation get
screwed over like this, something is pretty rotten in
Boston.
Just a thought.
