Goalies: Clarkson- Rogles, Yale- Hockin

Clarkson came into this game super-charged and played up to their
potential, something that has only happened once before, against
Cornell. Clarkson applied a lot of early pressure scored the first two
goals. The second one coming on a defensive give away deep in the Yale
zone. The defensive lapses by Yale led to several Clarkson goals.
Kaufmann scored Yale's first goal during a scramble in front of the
Clarkson goal. The second and third Yale goals came with Clarkson
pressing deeply in the Yale zone and getting caught. The Yale forwards
were very quick and made Clarkson pay for going in too deep. The third
Clarkson goal came on a Yale give-away that left Hockin trying to defend
against Conroy on his stomach.

Yale was able to go ahead by one in the second period on a power play
goal. 16 minutes in penalties were called to each side. Coach Taylor
of Yale thought that ref Galipeau was a little excessive. Clarkson
owned the final 12 minutes of the period; keeping the play in the Yale
zone, controlling the puck and pressuring Hockin. However, the Yale
defensive did keep Clarkson along the boards to limit the number of
shots. When Clarkson was able to shoot on goal, Hockin was there to
make the stop. Most of the people in the arena knew that Clarkson was
going to score again and eventually win, it just needed some time.
During the final 12 minutes Clarkson had two power play opportunities.
Clarkson was actually playing better 5-on-5 than a man up. The pp
actually relieved some of the offensive pressure.

Clarkson had a power play opportunity carry over into the third period.
With the whole intermission to talk about it, Clarkson was able to
finally tie the score when Marchant redirected a Belanger shot into the
upper part of the goal. Clarkson again applied pressure for the first
11 min of the period. This time, they were able to score three times
and go up by two. Hockin had to make several good saves during that
time to limit the Clarkson lead. After Conroy's goal, Clarkson became
more defensive and was holding Yale at bay until Rogles took a dumb
tripping penalty with 2:32 left. Yale came out on the power play and
Duffy scored when Rogles lost track of a blocked/redirected shot that
wound up on Duffy's stick.

Clarkson looked real good for a change. They were getting shots on goal
and tightening up on defense. In the second and third periods, they
made sure that the Yale forwards were in check and didn't give up any
breakaways. Yale also looked quite well. It was the defensive turn
overs and inability to clear their zone that hurt them.

Clarkson plays the next 9 of 13 league games on the road.

Regarding Maine's three short handed goals against Army, Todd Marchant
of Clarkson had two shg in the SIT against Army.
