Actually, what I said was "Rensselaer, also known as, the team formerly known
as RPI"
which was a spoof on "The artist formerly known as Prince" :)
I agree that it's ridiculous, and you won't catch me saying Rensselaer ever
again -- because I agree with Tony. They won their national title as RPI, and
that's what everyone knows -- so let's use it. No one can spell it, no one
knows the right way to say, and when it comes right down to it, it still
technically is RPI.
On the other hand, I do understand that SIDs and the like should be obligated
to go with what they are officially calling themselves. It is not the SIDs job
to make that kind of judgment call -- they must be technically accurate.
