Since my last post, I've been informed that apparently HE was planning on
counting the games in the tie column for both teams. If this is true, I
guessing that it was done in the interests of conformity in NCAA records. I
think that it is a mistake if this is the case. Northeastern won this game and
that should be reflected in the win column. The big question comes at the end
of the year when, and if, it comes down to a tiebreak based on wins. On the
one hand Northeastern gets jobbed because they didn't get a win for a game they
won. On the other hand if it is counted as a win the team they are tied with
is screwed because the game would have been a tie w/o the SO. And the league
may have wanted to avoid this as the SO rule is only on a trial run. The rule
may only be around for one year. And, since it is a tie in the eyes of the
NC$$, it doesn't hurt HE teams in that regard. This issue, I'm sure, is the
basic question they faced in deciding how to record these games and it looks as
if they decided to lessen the impact of the new rule.
