After years of watching conferences make short-sighted decisions, it's
terrific to see the CCHA come through with a decision which benefits all of
college hockey. UAF's ability to continue to support a major hockey
program without conference affiliation would have been doubtful in the long
run. The CCHA decision will help to insure that the Nanooks remain in Div.
I hockey ... and the sport needs to hold onto every team it can. It would
have been a tragedy if UAF had gone the way of USIU and Northern Arizona.

And, of course, congratulations to UAF for their perseverance. As someone
who remembers watching early games (back in the 70's) against bar-league
teams on outdoor ice (at 25 below zero), and other years when a road
victory over Hibbing Community College was a big event (ask Coach
Schafer!), this is a most welcome & anticipated step.

A great day for hockey!
