Here we go again...

The refs last night were Dell and Gallagher. The linesman was Crowley.
Tonight, the linesman will be Monfette.

Here's my rundown of the ECAC refs (aka Gerbil-Beaters):

AMMIAN/SABA/HEARN: They let the boys play the game yet don't let it
get out of control. They call legitimate penalties and pay attention
to the game. I haven't seen Saba all season. What happened to him?
Last year, I thought Saba was the best ref of them all!

GALLAGHER: He really changes from game to game. Last night, he let
the game get out of control. The calls he makes generally have very
little to do with the game.

DELL: He sees everything but won't blwo the whistle. He's bad in com-
bination with Gallagher or Belanger.

BELANGER: see Gallagher. He's almost identical to Gallagher, but more
prone to calling minors on both teams. He's good in combination with
Hearn, but generally an idiot.

CERBO: Does not even watch the game. Makes up penalties as he goes
along. Throughout most of a game with him, the play will be 4 on 4
or one team or the other will be on a power play (mostly on a complete
bull**** call). Normally just makes up excuses to put one person from
each team in the box.

My really deep thought: Because of the pathetic and weak officiating,
teams with a strong penalty killing unit will show up very well, per-
haps disproportionately so. Teams that play physically are at a
special disadvantage (esp. with Cerbo/Belanger/Gallagher) because
one of those three stooges will invent penalties. It's almost as if
they want the teams to play euro-style hockey, but won't make the
calls against any one team in particular.

I hope the situation gets better, or, at least, more consistent.

Chris Gorski :)
