In a high scoring affair, Clarkson held off Providence College, 6-4.

Clarkson got on the board late in the first period. The offenses were
so inept that there were no shots on goal, for either team, until
some 12 minutes had elapsed in teh game. Providence tied it up on a
2-on-2 Friar breakaway that somehow eluded Clarkson freshman goalie
Gregg Malicke. However, Clarkson scored a power play marker late
in the first. They recorded another man up early in the second to
be followed quickly by a fourth Clarkson goal. Providence was given
a power play but Marko Tuomainen seemed to clinch the game for
Clarkson with a short handed breakaway goal. However, less than 20
seconds or so after that, a Providence player broke in and beat
a screened Malicke. BTW- Providence goalie Dennis was pulled after
the fifth goal. Shortly thereafter, a defensive giveaway by Clarskon
lead to a 3-on-1 for the Friars. Malicke made the original stop but
Providence banged home the rebound. Later in the period, Malicke gave up
a rather bad goal. The Friar was close in at a very tough angle but still
beat Malicke up high to cut the Clarkson lead to 5-4.

There were plenty of chances but no scoring for most of the third
period. Providence goalie Bell and Clarkson's Jason Currie (who
replaced Malicke after the 4th goal) didn't have to make that
many tough saves. Plenty of chances for the offenses but a lot
of shots went high or wide. Craig Conroy and Jean Francois Houle
hit posts in the third. On a power play, Todd White of Clarkson
put a wraparound past Bell but it too went off the post. It appeared
to have hit the inside of the post and bounced out but the ref made
no signal. Providence appeared to have tied up the game with Bell
on the bench but the official had clearly blown the whistle before
the shot even took place. Craig Conroy nailed down the hat trick
with a late empty netter. Chad Quennville also had a hat trick
for the Friars.

THREE STARS
1) Craig Conroy, CU
2) Chad Quennville, PC
3) Jean Francois Houle, CU

All in all, this was not a particularly impressive game for either team.
Providence's offense was out to lunch the first period registering only
one shot on net (the goal). Clarkson's offense played poorly in the second
after registering its fifth goal.

In other action, Maine romped over St Lawrence, 7-2. I believe Brown
beat Vermont, 3-2.
