I wasn't at the game, so this is from what I heard on the radio
and read in the paper.

Freshman goalie Kirk Daubenspeck got his first start for the
Badgers Saturday night. Coach Sauer had planned on getting him a
start in November, but the right oppportunity never showed up.
Kirk will be in goal for the Badger Hockey Showdown, as Jim Carey
will be playing in an international tournament (not sure what
team, or what tournament...).

The Badgers played much better than Friday night for the first
two periods. They had a comfortable 4-0 lead on goals by Shier,
Carter, Balkovec and Tok until 17:10 of the second, when Hadden
got the Wildcats on the board.

Wisconsin got that one back at 1:24 of the fourth, but then tired
and Northern got three more (Riplinger, Smith and Hehr).
Wisconsin's Rob Granato and Blaine Moore both suffered shoulder
injuries in the first period, reducing the Badgers to three
lines.

In the final minute, Northern pulled Taylor from the net and won
several faceoffs in the Wisconsin end, but could not tie the
game.

The wildcats were given two major penalties in the game. In the
first period, the Badger's Blaine Moore left the game as Riplinger
was called for checking from behind. The paper said the game was
"on the verge of getting out of hand".

With 6:13 left in the third, Greg Hadden got a major for high
sticking, what the paper called "a baseball style swing and hit
Tok in the back of the head."

In a class move, Northern Michigan coach Rick Comley sent Hadden
to the locker room instead of getting him back for the final
minute. "You don't belong on the ice if that's how your going to
behave" he said.

With the split this weekend, Wisconsin and Northern Michigan remain
tied for 2nd in the WCHA, behind Colorado College.
