Power play goals are generally not counted in the +/- ratings.
     So a player on power play when a goal is scored for his team does
     not get a +1; nor does a penalty killer get a -1 when his unit
     gives up a power play goal against.
 
     On the other hand, I have seen shorthanded goals counted in a few
     different ways.  I have seen where a penalty killer gets a +1,
     +2, or +5 for a shorthanded goal (and conversely a -1, -2, or -5
     for the power play unit).  I would think the +5 is fairly
     unconventional but I can not say with authority what the standard
     is for the shorthanded goals.
 
     One last item would be a goal where a team is skating 6-on-5 to
     tie the game in the last minute.  I believe that is still
     considered an even strength situation for +/-.

What is the definition of the Plus-Minus rating?
 
I know (always be wary of what you know) that a player gets a +1 when his
team scores a goal when he is on the ice and a -1 when the other team scores
while he is on the ice. How do power-play and penalty killing situations
effect the stat?
