This seems to be exactly the same situation as exists in the California
state system, in which everyone in the world refers to one campus
as "Cal" even though it is technically "University of California at
Berkeley". I'm not even certain whether Cal is recognized in any
way as a "main campus". Certainly it enjoys a status separate from
the UC's at Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Davis, etc... but I wouldn't try
telling UCLA that they're a "satellite campus". :-) :-) :-)

The question is, other than people feeling slighted, are there any real
reprecussions for either UMass or Lowell, or is this just a "cold AC
league" subject to carry us through the bleak summer months?

p.s. A friend of mine graduated from Lowell a few years ago before they
explicitly added the UMass- to the name, and he is adamant that
his school "no longer exists," so apparently this cuts both ways.
