An open note to "The Voice." I'm posting publicly in hopes that others can
clear up some of the glaring generalities in my post.

It's good to read that some students are active and interested in bringing
Div. I ice hockey to their campuses. From what I've read about the Big
Ten, though, it's highly unlikely that ANY new men's teams, let alone
hockey, will be installed at a Big Ten school.

The Big Ten has taken a leading role in the Div. I gender-equity battle, and
is seeking a 60-40 split (or so) among all member institutions by a
certain deadline (within 5 years, I believe). This means adding new
women's programs (most notably women's soccer) and dropping a few
men's sports. Wisconsin, as you may know, has been without a baseball
team for a few years now. Yes, hockey is a profitable Div. I sport at
four Big Ten schools (sorry OSU), and Penn State's club team is hugely
successful, but at the present time, adding new men's sports simply is
 not done.

I'm not pointing fingers, just making observations.

Your best bet would be to include women's ice hockey in your proposal.
In fact, Women's hockey was included in an NCAA proposal classifying
it as an "Emerging Sport." I don't know if the proposal passed.

Please keep us posted on your drive to bring hockey to the Hoosiers.
Best of luck.

Greg
