Analysis- First period- Rather boring. Not even very much checking from
either team. Most of the action was up and down the
ice, with MSU usually getting one scoring chance per
trip and not being able to hold the puck in the zone.
BGSU did a better job of keeping the puck in the
offensive end, but was mostly limited to passes
around the perimeter.
Second period- Action began to pick up more. While BGSU outshot MSU
in the period, MSU had better scoring chances and was
able to capitalize. MSU's first goal came on a 3-on-
2 for the Spartans, with Guolla circling behind the
net and passing to Carter in front, who put it past
Petrie on the second try. Somewhat of a garbage goal. Three minutes later, Rem Murray made it 2-0 on the
Spartans' first shorthanded goal of the season.
Murray picked up a loose puck at center ice and skated into the BG zone on a 2-on-2. At the right faceoff
circle, Murray took a wrist shot which beat Petrie
clean between the pads. Near the end of the period
BG started to take a few penalties, a trend that con-
tinued into the third.
Third period- Much more checking in this period. The Falcons
in particular began to take a lot of penalties, which
MSU did not capitalize on (Power Plays MSU 0-6, BGSU
0-5). MSU's third goal came on another 3-on-2, with
Turner circling behind the net and feeding Albers in
front of the net, who one-timed it past Petrie. MSU
was able to hold on to preserve Buzak's second shut-
out of the season
Overall- A really sloppy game, particularly from MSU. Many scoring
chances which failed due to missed passes. BGSU was rather flat most of the game save a few moments. Buzak made maybe 4 or 5 tough saves all night. Not a very impressive win,
but a W none the less. And right now, that's all we need.
Win puts MSU up by 5 on BGSU and 2 on LSSU, who at last
report was leading OSU. Not the kind of performance that
the Spartans wanted, however, heading into the home-and-
home with Michigan.
