Here are the details on the WCHA playoffs for 1993. I am quoting both of
the Twin Cities papers, because neither article had all the info.

Star Tribune (Minneapolis):

The WCHA has a new post-season tournament format for 1993. All 10
members -- Alaska-Anchorage, Colorado College, Denver, Michigan Tech,
Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, Northern Michigan, St. Cloud State, and
Wisconsin -- will play in the opening round March 11-14 with the usual
best-of-three format. The top five will be the home teams.

After the opening round, the five winners will be re-ranked according
to regular season finish and advance to the WCHA playoff championships
March 18-20 at the St. Paul Civic Center.

St. Paul Pioneer Press:

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced changes in its playoff
format for the 1992-93 season to incorporate Alaska-Anchorage which enters
the league at the start of the playoffs.

The league's regular-season will play host to the 10th-seeded Seawolves in
a first-round, best-of-three series. The five first-round survivors
advance to the St. Paul Civic Center. The fourth and fifth seeds play on
Thursday, March 18, with the winner advancing to the semifinals the next
day. The championship will be decided at 7:35 PM on Saturday, March 20.

---end of quoted material--

This is the first time I've heard that UAA will be joining the league at
the beginning of the 1992-93 playoffs, but I guess it makes sense.

Therre is no mention of the WCHA calling this tournament the 'Final Five,'
but I don't think there is any reason why they can't. Perhaps they should
trademark the name before the NC$$ thinks of it No more PH's! ;-)
