A bit more about Saturday's Colgate-Union game, which Union won, 4-2.
Achilles was again deafening as the Dutchmen remain perfect in 5 home
games so far and perfect in the ECAC at 3-0.

I apologize that I am forgetting some names here.

The teams played a scoreless first, during which I'd say Colgate had
the better chances. Brandon Snee was very good in goal again for
Union.

During the second period, Union got into a lot of penalty trouble.
They were able to kill of a string of overlapping power plays for
about 6 minutes before Colgate finally broke through for a 1-0 lead.
But the Dutchmen rallied late in the period, tying it on the power
play with a Charles Simard goal then quickly adding an even strength
goal from Jason Ralph to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

Colgate's Chad MacDonald was called for a 5-minute major/game
disqualification for a hit from behind early in the second. Union had
an opportunity to widen their lead, but had trouble getting the power
play going. A combination of sloppy play by Union and an aggressive
penalty kill by Colgate led to the tying goal. A Union defenseman had
the puck behind his own net and left it, apparently for a teammate to
carry up ice. No one was there but a Colgate player, who was able to
take control and as the Union power play unit scrambled to recover.
The puck ended up out front where a second Colgate penalty killer
(Brad D'Arco?) was able to fire it home. It was a horrible defensive
breakdown, which fortunately for Union, will quickly be forgotten
because of what happened later.

It was 2-2 heading into the final minute, at which point someone in
the row behind me said "looks like overtime". Simard made sure that
didn't happen with his second goal of the night with under 30 seconds
to go, and his teammates piled on him at center ice while another good
crowd of just under 2000 got very loud. Before we could even sit down
again for the final seconds, Jeff Wilson scored his second
empty-netter of the weekend to get people going again.

3 clean breakaways were stopped during the game by Colgate's freshman
goalie Dave Cann, two of which were by Wilson and one by Jeff
Hutchins.

Union played this game without Alex Todd and Bryan Yackel, who were
out after their roles in the post-game mini-brawl with Cornell on
Friday night. Ales Havlik and Glen Sanders saw action in their place.

It's only November, but things are a lot more exciting than they've
been in a while at Achilles Rink. Union now breaks for exams,
returning to the ice the day after Thanksgiving, when they host
Mercyhurst in a non-league game.
