Tradition breakers in hockey:

Woog's California recruitment included John Blue ( who played youth hockey in
Cali, but was not a native), then Rob Mendel ( German born?) who played for
Edina and hailed from LA. Years later, my own (son) native born Cali player
was on Woog's recruitment list. Blue played for the Gophs; Rob played for
Wisconsin; Price played for Maine. Note: both Mendel and Price played high
school hockey locally in MN, Blue did not.

Lucia has recruited lots of Cali boys to CC, two black players that I know
are still rostered, Burke Nelson (a senior?) and a high draft pick whose name
eludes me. Cali players are breaking into Division 1 lineups after playing in
virtual scouting obscurity for too many years. Who picked up Noah Clarke
(LA)? Players like Alex Kim of Miami and Nick Ganga of Ohio (both Cali
players) break the racial/ regional mold/tradition.

Note: RE: Former Goph Ben Clymer
Did anyone else watch ESPN 2, Chicago and Buffalo last night? Was that
ex-Goph Ben Clymer in a Chicago jersey?
