I didn't mean to start a stampede of similar posts with my
barely-hockey-content message. Warning: if you're not interested in this,
you will lose an estimated 50 seconds of your life by reading this. I'm
trying to tie up the loose ends and I am not trying to provoke any, nor do
I expect any more discussion.
(I guess discuss with me privately if you really need more baseball talk.)
Since someone gave us Kentucky numbers, here is the whole table. I
included all Yankee appearances in the World Series since I already
pointed out that only 5 of the 8 Michigan years correlate with Yankee
championships:
Kentucky: 1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, and 1998
Michigan: 1948, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1964, 1996, 1998
NY in WS: '49-58, 60-64, 69, 73, 76-78, 81, 86, 96
NY champ: '49-54, 56, 58, 61, 62, 69, 77, 78, 86, 96
(I'm not a Yankee fan touting the team, this is from
www.majorleaguebaseball.com)
My first post just wanted to say that this was a purely trivial but
interesting statistic. Now I see that it should be quite EASY to match
most anything with Yankee trips to the Series. This whole thing turned
out to be a rather unimpressive coincidence.
