And I will say that the possibility of increased East-West matchups is
the prime reason why I would be for allowing the exemption to
continue. It's intriguing to think that this might happen, especially
with the 5 CCHA teams who will be going to Alaska, since they will
have fewer conference games than the WCHA.

I'm not extremely against the exemption, as I mentioned in email to
Jeff Weiss...I won't consider it a bad thing if we keep the status quo.

This is the key...it probably can't be done.

A while ago in talking to HE commissioner Bob DeGregorio, I wondered
if it would be possible for HE and the CCHA to set up some sort of
nonconference agreement. Bob said that although this would be nice,
the league really only has jurisdiction over conference games. Any
nonconference games would have to be arranged by the schools
themselves.

Jim posted the Union nonconference schedule for next year, and along
with an increase in overall games for the Dutchmen, it appears that
Union will be playing many more HE teams. In addition, I have learned
that the Merrimack NC schedule next year will include RPI, Union,
Brown, Yale, and apparently Princeton, which would be the most ECAC
teams MC has played in a season since joining HE.

This year I was bothered by the fact that ECAC teams tended to use
their extra NC games to schedule Canadian and other non-DivI teams.
However, it seems that this was because of the fact that the ECAC/Ivy
limit increase occurred after most other DivI teams had finalized
their schedules. I am guessing (and hoping) that the higher limit for
ECAC/Ivy teams will lead to more NC DivI games beginning next year.
