Both goaltender Ray Aho and defenseman Ryan Skaleski walked on to the OSU
team. I don't know how vigorously either was recruited, but I know each had
some contact with coaches before trying out for the team. In his rookie
year, Aho took over the starting position from scholarship athlete Tom
Connerty (does anyone know where he is?).
Both are now scholarship players, but neither is on 100% scholarship; in my
opinion, they're two of the best players on the Buckeye team, and Skaleski
is one of the best stay-at-home defensemen in the league.
